Real Girls' Talk: Transfeminine Precarity Across U.S. Places and Spaces, 2024-2025
A downloadable monograph
PRE-ORDER!! I intend to publish this by September 2025, or sooner! :)
Overview: Trans women live precarious lives. Previous, available, literature shows that trans women have a very high unemployment rate (15% or more) and face additional challenges based on their positionality. Some of those challenges include being constructed as monsters, rapists, and abusers, having their very right to exist or be constantly challenged, and a mainstream, cross-ideological consensus that trans women are somehow the worst, most abusive, crappiest, cis men. In reality, trans women are women- specifically women denied legitimacy and resources. This project addresses a gap in public discourse and literature by transforming quantitative and qualitative data gathered in conversation with trans women and nonbinary transfems from an academic thesis to a readable, understandable folk, or common, discussion.
The lack of effective, feminist, research on the topic of trans women that also accurately views trans women as a class of women, rather than committing caricature and erasure to classify them as a subset of men is what drove the author to perform a thesis on this subject and, further, is what drives the publishing of this monograph from outside the gilded walls of academic publishing.
